Earlier this month we commenced the master site planning process for Gunston Hall in partnership with the Richmond based firm Glave and Holmes (to learn more about this firm, go to: http://www.glaveandholmes.com/). The purpose of this process is provide a physical component to our strategic plan, to foster cohesion among the different parts of our property, to create a place based and tangible manifestation of our vision for Gunston Hall, and to support our future fundraising efforts. Specifically, this process will be holistic and over the next 6 months we will evaluate, examine, and articulate a plan for our entire campus, inclusive of a targeted focus on the visitor center/museum/administrative complex we internally refer to as the Quad.
A major component of this collaborative and inclusive process are charrettes, which are facilitated workshops during which representatives from Glave and Holmes will invite ideas and insight from various groups of internal and external stakeholders. These charrettes will each last approximately two hours and will offer opportunities for the following groups to participate in this process:
• Members of the Gunston Hall Docents Association
• Members of our Board of Regents and Board of Visitors
• Members of the Mason Neck and surrounding community
• Gunston Hall volunteers
• Gunston Hall staff
We have scheduled these charrettes, all of which will occur at Gunston Hall, for January 20-21. It is incredibly important to us that our neighbors be given an opportunity to participate in this process and the charrette for the Mason Neck community is scheduled for January 20 at 7:30 pm. As such, we would love a strong turnout of our neighbors and I am hoping that you can share this invitation with the Board and members of the MNCA. The ideal number for these types of meetings is 20-30, so interested folks can contact me directly and I can coordinate everyone's participation.
