[MNCA-Notices] Look What's Coming to Mason Neck State Park - please distribute

LOOK WHAT'S COMING

TO

MASON NECK STATE PARK!

"Spirit of America" by Mike Curtis

Three years ago, when the Park embarked on a much-needed redesign of the Visitor Center, we thought, "What could be more appropriate than to greet those visitors with a life-size representation of our park icon, the Bald Eagle?"

Last year we moved a step closer to attaining that goal – the Friends received a starter grant of $5000, to be put toward the purchase of just such a Bald Eagle sculpture as part of the Visitor Center Enhancement Project.

This summer, thanks to grants to the Friends from the Garden Clubs of Virginia, the Park now has a redesigned entrance to the Visitor Center, a native plant garden, and improved sidewalks. A gathering area with benches will be completed this fall.  This design will highlight the planned Bald Eagle sculpture.

To find an appropriate piece, members of our Board, together with Park Management, embarked on an extensive search to select an enduring artwork that would symbolize the Park we love.

Our selection, pictured above, is "Spirit of America", a high-quality Bald Eagle bronze sculpture with a wingspan of seven feet.

The sculptor of this piece, Mike Curtis, has been crafting bronze Bald Eagle sculptures for over 30 years from his studio and foundry in Idaho. He is world famous, the recipient of numerous awards, and has been honored at the White House by former Presidents Bush and Ford.

The Friends have already raised a significant amount of the funds necessary to purchase this spectacular sculpture. With only $5,000 left to go, can we count on you to help make "Spirit of America" a wonderful and welcoming addition to the Park?

If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation toward the purchase of "Spirit of America," please click on the following link to pay on-line:
