[MNCA-Notices] Route 1 Public Hearing SATURDAY, September 16 9 a.m. to Noon

ROUTE 1 REVISED COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
OPEN HOUSE THIS SATURDAY

Dear Peter:

Fairfax County's effort to revise Route 1's comprehensive plan to bring bus rapid transit and extend the Yellow Line to Hybla Valley is called "EMBARK Richmond Highway."  It is the county's implementation of the Route 1 Multimodal Alternatives Analysis Study secured by myself and former Senator Toddy Puller in 2011.

The new plan lays the groundwork for Route 1 widening, new transit, and 120,000 new people. Embark will shape the comprehensive plan for our community for decades. We rely on your input to make our community a place we are proud to call home.  Community involvement is crucial to this process.

At this meeting, you will have the opportunity to see proposed concepts for Penn Daw, Beacon Hill/Groveton, Hybla Valley and Woodlawn. The concepts include building heights, building forms, park and plaza space, and streetscapes. You will also be able to:

  • Share thoughts and ideas on the future development and community needs for the Richmond Highway corridor.
  • Listen to project overview presentations offered periodically throughout the morning.
  • Talk to staff about the Richmond Highway widening project from Jeff Todd Way to Napper Road.
  • Talk to staff about the planned bus rapid transit system on Richmond Highway

Embark Richmond Highway Community Meeting
Saturday, September 16
9 a.m. to Noon
West Potomac High School Library
6500 Quander Road, Alexandria

You can also find meeting information, materials, agendas, and further information about the advisory committee here:

It is an honor to serve you in Richmond,

[MNCA-Notices] Owl Moon Evening is now free and open to the public! - Saturday, September 23

OWL MOON

IS NOW A FREE EVENT AND IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

Come join us for the Friends of Mason Neck State Park's Owl Moon evening on Saturday, September 23!  It's an opportunity to come face to face with three owls (a Barn Owl, a Barred Owl and a Great Horned Owl) as the Secret Garden: Birds and Bees presents  "A Year in the Life of an Owl." Bring your camera for great close-up shots. We'll have light refreshments at 7:00 PM and hold a very brief annual meeting, then start the program at 7:30. We'll plan for the event to be held in the Visitor Center, but if more than 30 people register, we'll be in a large, lighted tent near the Visitor Center so be sure to dress for the weather.

THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR THIS EVENT, WHICH IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.  However, please RSVP if you are coming so we know how many people to plan for and we can put up the tent if we need it.  You can RSVP here: http://www.masonneckstateparkfriends.org/event-2648462
