Peter there is an unsafe condition on Gunston Road halfway between Hallowing Point and Gunston Manor (see below). On the second rise from the HP sign, the passing lane going east starts too soon causing a blind spot of cars coming west bound. I saw it myself today. VDOT is going to fix it but you might want to let your folks know to be careful in the meantime.

This sender failed our fraud detection checks and may not be who they appear to be. Learn about spoofing | Earlier this week Laura Donaghy sent out a note to the community noting issues with the Gunston Road resurfacing project. One point that she brought up was the following: |
"3 - Today when I left the neighborhood I noticed they have now added the official lane stripes, however they have modified the striping from it's previous placement to allow for a passing lane beginning in the blindspot at the top of the small hill at the halfway point between HPA and Gunston Manor Neighborhoods. This means a car can legally be in the opposing lane of traffic in a location where neither can see the other car approaching. This is an area that has always been a problem when runners and bikers are on it - now we can legally add cars in the blindspot?"
In coming back into the neighborhood today I saw what Laura was talking about, so I called VDOT to report this unsafe condition. I am delighted to say that within one hour of my call, VDOT had a representative out to meet with me. I showed him the issue and he agreed. He said that he would put out a caution sign immediately and would have the passing lane corrected on Wednesday of next week. He also promised to follow up with me once the issue was corrected.
In the meantime, please be careful at that spot.
Thanks Laura for pointing this out!
