Affordable housing: A key element of economic development by former SFDC Executive Director, Lara Fritts: "A few months ago, I was talking with a fellow economic development professional who asked me, why I cared about affordable housing because in his words, "affordable housing isn't economic development." In his view economic development is meant to help companies facilitate new job creation, enhance the community's tax base, and provide opportunities for increasing household incomes. However, what happens when a community is so successful in its economic development efforts that the supply of housing decreases and prices escalate so quickly that jobs and income growth don't keep up?" Click here to read the full blog post.
What's Happening on the Corridor?
Transit and Transportation
The good, the bad and the unexplained: what you need to know about the WMATA budget, David Alpert & Ron Thompson report for Greater Greater Washington: "Soon, WMATA will formally be asking riders and other members of the public to weigh in on its next budget. House Democrats unveil $760 billion infrastructure package — and call on Trump for bipartisan push, Michael Laris reports for The Washington Post: "House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and top lieutenants on Wednesday outlined a $760 billion infrastructure package, appealing to President Trump to join in jump-starting a bipartisan priority he once hoped would serve as a key part of his legacy. The Democrats' ambitious and at times detailed proposal for building roads, transit systems, airports and water projects came with a glaring — and strategic — omission: They avoided saying how the vast majority of it should be paid for, arguing that Trump should be out front on that issue." Click here to read the full article.

Innovation Center Metro won't get a corporate name (for now), but a lot is already happening there., Canaan Merchant reports for Greater Greater Washington: "The last new Metro station in Fairfax County before Dulles Airport will be Innovation Center, a somewhat bland name which Metro briefly tried to sell to an unnamed 'Fortune 500 Company.' It had to pull back in the face of opposition from Fairfax County officials, but in the meantime, the area is bustling with change. I took a look around."
