Emergency Preparedness training offered FREE by the Fairfax County Community Emergency Response TEAM (CERT) on Fort Belvoir – open to all (16 and older)
Fairfax County wants all residents to help prevent disasters and to be prepared to take care of themselves and their families when disasters do strike. The FEMA sponsored CERT program, managed in Fairfax County by the Fire Department, is designed to help the general public be better prepared. The training is informative, practical, hands on, challenging, and FUN.
The next CERT Class on Fort Belvoir (CERT 134), which is open to the general public, will start on Thursday, March 22, 2018 and run for 8 Thursday evenings from 1830-2200. We still have openings in the class – please see below for registration information and please invite a friend or two (or three). We will arrange for temporary Base Access for the class if you do not already have regular access to the Post. If you have questions or need help with registration, please contact the CERT Instructor and long time Mason Neck resident, Jonathan Kiell at TEAMs@fairfaxcountycert.org
More information is available on the CERT Webpage www.fairfaxcountycert.org . There are no prerequisites and this course is designed for the general public. Please distribute share this and encourage people to take advantage of the FREE emergency preparedness and response training.
Registration for the FREE CERT class is a two-step process, so please be patient. First, since CERT is a Fairfax County Volunteer Program, you will have to create an account in the Fairfax County Volunteer Management System (VMS). Please go to: http://www.fairfaxcountycert.org/p/about-fairfax-county-cert-training.html
Complete the VMS registration form. The volunteer registration form requests a lot of information since it is used by many Fairfax County volunteer programs, but you only need to complete the required (*) fields to sign up for CERT training. Note that the system can be a bit slow (this is probably not something to try to do on your phone). Also note that some government computers may not allow access to the website. If you need help, let us know.
Once you have created a VMS account, log into the account (enter your ID and password) and select the search function on the left hand menu; enter CERT in the search field and press the search button (not enter). This should take you to a list of CERT and CERT related classes. Scroll down to find CERT 134 (at Fort Belvoir) and select the apply button. You should receive an auto-response pretty quickly, and I will respond with more detail within 48 hours.
Note that if CERT 134 is not convenient for you, there will be several other additional classes scheduled, though the details have not yet been determined. If you have questions or need additional information, please just let me know.
Thank you, and I hope to see you in a CERT class soon!
