New localized list serve for Mason Neck - also information for Fairfax text alerts for COVID-19

To the greater Mason Neck community:
(please share)

The Corona virus is disrupting our lives just a bit more every day. Even though a good majority of our neighbors have the ability to prepare for the upcoming weeks ahead, some may need our help to access computers, phones, transportation, grocery stores, pharmacies and/or other emergencies.

Fairfax County has started a local text alert system (see below) that is zip code based and has an excellent approach to matching needs to offers at N2N@fairfaxcounty.gov

Several local citizens are setting up a more localized list to communicate needs/wants for Mason Neck residents.

In addition to the Fairfax County based Lorton community text system we will be seeking local volunteers to help coordinate local resources and to support THOSE IN THE Mason Neck community who need help.

Specifically we will distribute important information regarding the Mason Neck community to support our neighbors using https://ShelterInPlace.org and the new MasonNeckShares list serve.

If the need for support increases and depending on available volunteers, we will move to develop our next phase of support and coordination efforts to include web-based support.

Please feel free to invite friends and neighbors to subscribe to this list at this link:

If you are interested in helping neighbors, or if you need support with pickup and delivery of food, medicine or other services, please send us an email to MasonNeck@ShelterInPlace.org and Include the following;

  1. Your name
  2. Contact information:
  3. Your offer to help
  4. Your request for help.
  5. Prioritize: High/Medium/Low

We will follow up as soon as possible.

The government website  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/ should provide updates and information on the virus and how to protect yourselves and your family. Please read up on the impact of this virus on our pets as well.

Thank you for your cooperation to keep our neighbors and neighborhood safe. Please practice social distancing wherever possible.

Stay healthy and safe,

Peter Weyland
(additionally we are now offering to setup local list serves for community groups, churches and HOA's etc. pro bono through this crisis at the ShelterInPlace.org website)
