Franconia Police District - Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit have released a picture of a possible suspect vehicle and person of interest following a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on Saturday around 4:35 p.m. in Lorton.

Fatal Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash in Lorton
Franconia Police District – Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit are asking for the public's assistance identifying a vehicle and its driver involved in a crash that resulted in the death of 28-year-old Joseph Lanza, of Lorton. Officers responded to the report of a crash involving a pedestrian in the 10000 block of Old Colchester Road on Saturday around 4:35 p.m. Preliminarily, detectives believe Lanza approached the roadway and was hit by a dark colored sedan with a silver or gray hood, possibly a Honda Prelude, traveling westbound on Old Colchester Road. The car did not stop and was last seen traveling west on Old Colchester Road. Lanza was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries. Speed and alcohol are unknown factors for the driver. Detectives have not yet determined if alcohol was a factor for the pedestrian.

This is the 7th pedestrian fatality in the county to date in 2020.
