[MNCA-Notices] 30,000 Years of history in 90 Minutes!

Have you ever wondered about the pre-history of Mason Neck? You have a unique opportunity to learn about the events of the last 30,000 years.  Join Dr. Michael Johnson, the former Senior Archaeologist for Fairfax County, who will lead a walk along Belmont Bay at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 17.  As we walk, Dr. Johnson will talk about 30,000 years of geology, climate change, hydrology, erosion, archaeology, and the ways paleo-Indian peoples of the area adapted to the changes in the Mason Neck area.  Join us at the Mason Neck State Park Visitor Center for an enjoyable and informative morning!

Dr. Johnson was the Fairfax County Senior Archaeologist from 1978 until 2011.  He received his Ph.D. from the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom.  He is currently researching human interactions at Smith Mountain and Thoroughfare Gap, Virginia during the earliest known peopling of the Americas, 13,000+ years ago.
